PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The No. 2 Huskies got hits from seven of their nine starters and RBIs from five different players, as they shutout BYU, 8-0, in five innings on Saturday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. Bryana Walker (8-1) made the start in the circle and tossed 5.0 shutout innings to earn her eighth win of the season.

The Huskies (13-2) went 3-2 at the tournament, opening with an 11-0 win over Maryland in the first of two games on Thursday. In their second game of the day, the Huskies lost to No. 23 LSU, 6-3. On Friday, the Huskies split again, defeating No. 25 Texas, 3-2, before losing to Nothwestern, 4-2.

Walker turned in her 10th complete-game shutout and her second this season, while striking out seven batters and allowing only three hits and one walk.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st on a bases-loaded RBI-single by Ali Aguilar.

With Walker setting down the Cougars easily in the 2nd and 3rd, the Huskies gave her some insurance runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The first seven Huskies batters reached base safely, beginning with back-to-back walks to Hooch Fagaly and Kaitlin Inglesby. Then the hit parade began.

A single by Kylee Lahners loaded the bases with nobody out for Ali Aguilar. Aguilar singled, bringing home Fagaly to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back two-run singles by Whitney Jones and Marki Creger-Zier and a run-scoring base hit from Courtney Gano brought the Huskies lead to 7-0.

Aguilar, Jones, and Creger-Zier each had two RBI for the Huskies.

Victoria Hayward closed the game with a walk-off, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 5th inning to give the Huskies their seventh run-rule shortened game of the season.

The Huskies will head to the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif. for five games over three days, beginning on Friday, Feb. 28 with a game vs. UTEP (5-9) at 11:00 a.m. and a matchup later that day against CSU Bakersfield (2-11).
