SEATTLE - One of the most prestigious high school meets in the country, the Brooks PR Invitational went off Saturday just south of Seattle at Renton Stadium. Washington's track and field future continues to look bright as seven UW recruits took part in the meet.
Brooks moved the PR Invite outdoors this year after hosting it for the past three years at Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility. In-state UW recruits competing Saturday included Megan Beauchene, Rose Christen, Hannah Derby, Drew Schreiber, and Eric Simpson. They were joined by California products Fred Huxham and Anna Maxwell.
Christen, out of Central Kitsap High School, continued her outstanding senior season with a third-place finish in the 800-meters, one of the most competitive races of the day. Christen ran a time of 2:06.35 as five girls broke 2:07. Christen ranks fifth in the nation with her PR of 2:05.64.
The girls mile run featured Maxwell and Beauchene. Maxwell, who ranks No. 2 in the nation at 1,600-meters this season, took third in a time of 4:44.07. Kennewick native Beauchene, coming off a pair of 3A state titles, was eighth in 4:52.06. Derby, from Tacoma's Bellarmine Prep, was fourth in the 400-meters in 57.69 seconds.
