SEATTLE - Future Husky Amy-Eloise Neale has earned a spot at the upcoming IAAF World Junior Cross Country Championships, where she will be competing for Great Britain. Neale, one of the top prep distance runners in the U.S., has British citizenship, and placed fourth at the U.K. World Cross Trials in Birmingham, England this past Saturday.

Neale, a three-time Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year for Washington, made the trip to the U.K. to run at Cofton Park. Neale placed fourth in the junior (under-20) race, running 20:15 over the 6,000-meter course. The top six athletes made the Junior British team, which will run in Poland on March 24 at the World Championships.

A Snohomish, Wash. resident and an eight-time Washington state champ for Glacier Peak High School, Neale has competed for Great Britain before, in 2011, when she ran at the IAAF World Youth Championships in France, placing 11th in the steeplechase. Neale just recently won the prestigious Brooks PR Invite mile title at UW's own Dempsey Indoor.

Neale will be the latest in a long line of Husky recruits or current Huskies to run in the World Junior Cross Country Championships. Current Husky Katie Flood was the last participant, when she ran for Team USA in 2011 in Spain, placing 19th overall. Additional Huskies to run at Junior Worlds include Mel Lawrence, Lauren Saylor, and Jeremy Mineau.
