SEATTLE - It was not an off-week for all the members of the Husky track and field squads, as Maddie Meyers headed to St. Louis to compete in the USA Junior Cross Country Championships, and a trio of Husky jumpers jetted down to New Mexico.

Meyers, the freshman from the Northwest School in Seattle, was looking for a top-six finish at the Forest Park course in St. Louis which would earn a spot on Team USA for the World Cross Country meet. In spite of a very strong effort, Meyers wound up one spot short, as she finished seventh in a time of 21:29 over the 6,000-meter course.

Down in Albuquerque, jumpers Kasen Covington, and Kasen Williams all competed in the long and triple jumps over the past two days at the New Mexico Classic. The long jump came first on Friday. Williams had a tougher time duplicating his first meet success from a week ago, as he had just one legal mark out of six attempts, going 23-1 ¼ with that jump. Bardwell went 22-4 ½ and Covington jumped 22-3.

In the triple jump this afternoon, Covington had a big season-best leap of 49-9 ¼ on his sixth attempt to take second. Williams got into the triple jump for the first time, going 46-10 ¼ as he tries to regain his rhythm in the tricky event in which he set the Washington high school state record back in 2011. Bardwell was unable to get a legal mark in the triple.

The Huskies will welcome the foursome back next weekend for the Husky Classic in the Dempsey on Feb. 8-9.
