BYDGOSZCZ, Poland - Usually running against each other for opposing high schools, today future Husky distance runners Katie Knight and Amy-Eloise Neale were competing for separate nations, but the two ran excellent races as usual at the IAAF World Junior Cross Country Championships contested in Poland.
Neale and Knight both posted top-30 individual finishes today in the field of 86 junior women's athletes from 15 nations. Competing for Great Britain where she was born, Neale (Glacier Peak HS) finished 21st overall as the No. 3 scorer for the UK squad, which took third in the team standings to earn bronze medals. Neale ran a very quick 19:34 over the six kilometer course.
Knight, the Spokane native and North Central High School product, was also the No. 3 finisher but for Team USA. She finished 28th overall in a time of 19:52 as the U.S. squad placed sixth. Knight qualified for Team USA with her fourth-place finish at the U.S. Junior Cross Country Championships last month in St. Louis.
