SEATTLE -- The Washington women's soccer season is underway. While the team is led by a deep and talented senior class, the Dawgs have also added a group of talented freshmen. GoHuskies.com got a chance to speak to each of the new Huskies. Today, Havana McElvaine.

Why did you come to Washington?

McElvaine: "This school offers a wide a variety of academic opportunities and Seattle provides a diverse and culturally enriched community that I am excited to be a part of. I knew that I would be getting an amazing education, while also competing in one of the most competitive conferences, against some of the best teams in the country with the goal of winning a National Championship always in mind."

What do you hope to contribute this season and in your career as a Husky?

McElvaine: "I hope to become a strong, reliable defender while also being dangerous in the attack and creating scoring opportunities for my teammates. I am lucky to be able to learn from an experienced backline this season and I hope to grow from their leadership and carry that with me into future seasons."

What is the greatest moment of your playing career so far?

McElvaine: "The first team I was on was called the pink flamingos. I remember scoring on the wrong goal, but all the parents still cheered."

What is your first memory of playing soccer?

Serwold: "The first thing I remember is the shin guards being bigger than my legs."

What do you do for fun?

McElvaine: "I like to scooter around campus with the other freshman, have dance parties in the dorms and eat a lot."

Who is the most inspirational person in your life and why?

McElvaine: "My mom. She pushes me to be my best self in all that I do. She has sacrificed so much to ensure that I have all the tools I need to follow my dreams. She is truly selfless and I’m lucky to have her in my life."
