SEATTLE -- Head coach Lesle Gallimore is pleased to announce an addition to the women’s soccer staff. Kate Deines has been named the Husky women's Volunteer Assistant Coach.
Deines is former standout player with the Husky women and Gallimore is thrilled to have her rejoin the Husky soccer family.
At Washington, Deines started 86 games and was a four-time All-Pac-10 selection. She scored 21 goals for the Huskies and twice was an NSCAA Scholar All-American.
"Kate is one of the most accomplished and decorated players to come out of our program at the University of Washington,” said Gallimore. “Having her play in Seattle professionally this year with Seattle Reign FC in the NWSL has been a thrill for us as a coaching staff. To have Kate available and willing to serve as our volunteer assistant coach will benefit our players immensely. We have a talented group of players, many who aspire to play professionally themselves and Kate has always been a great leader, mentor and example to those around her. We're pleased to have her back in the fold with our program."
Deines has extensive professional experience since graduating from UW in 2011. She was a fourth round selection of the Atlanta Beat of the WPS, before heading to overseas to Iceland to play professionally with another former Dawg, Veronica Perez. Currently, Deines plays with the Seattle Reign of the NWSL.
"I am beyond thrilled I get another opportunity be a part of the UW Women's Soccer family,” said Deines. “This team truly has the best of both worlds: an amazing coaching staff and a roster full of incredibly talented players. The sky is the limit for the 2013 fall season!"
The Dawgs kick off 2013 on Friday, August 23, in Hawai’i when they take on Central Florida at 7:30 p.m., PST. The home opener will be Friday, August 30, when the Huskies host Baylor at 3:30 p.m., PST.
