SEATTLE - The annual Husky Football Coaches Clinic, scheduled for April 13, will feature appearances from top high school and NFL coaches along with numerous other opportunities to learn from and meet with the UW football coaching staff.
High school and youth football coaches are invited to join Husky head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff for a full day of instruction on a wide range of subjects from a great roster of speakers.
The day gets underway with registration at 8:30 a.m. in Alaska Airlines Arena, with breakfast provided by Top Pot Doughnuts. After a brief welcome, the presentations begin.
First up is Ken Potter, who is entering his 27th season at the helm of the Jesuit High football team in Portland, Ore. Potters has guided the Crusaders to the state playoffs every season since 1992 and won the state championship in 2000, 2006 and 2007. The 2012 team made it to the state 6A semifinals for the 12th time.
Coach Potter will be followed by Matt Logan, head coach at Corona (Calif.) Centennial High. In 2012, the Huskies won the CIF Southern Section Inland Division championship and advanced all the way to the CIF Open Division state title game. He was the 2008 national coach of the year and has led Centennial to seven CIF titles and a state crown during his tenure.
The docket of morning speakers wraps up with Seattle Seahawks assistant offensive line coach Pat Ruel. Ruel, who played college football at Miami (Fla.), has more than 30 years of coaching experience at the highest levels. A former offensive coordinator with programs like Texas A&M and Washington State, he's also coached with five different NFL teams, including the Seahawks since the arrival of head coach Pete Carroll.
At the conclusion of Coach Ruel's presentation, clinic attendees will enjoy a lunch provided by Adrenaline Fundraising before heading out to the UW football spring practice that will be taking place at the Dempsey Indoor Practice Facility.
After practice, coaches from the UW staff will take over. Coach Sarkisian will get things started, followed by offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau and defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, during which breakout sessions with all of the UW position coaches will also be taking place.
The day wraps up with a coaches social, catered by Varlamos Pizza.
The cost of the clinic is just $50.00 (must pre-register for that prices), and any coaching staff that pre-registers four or more coaches receives a discount of $5.00 per coach. Additionally, WIAA clock hours are available.
