SEATTLE -- Washington senior goalkeeper Spencer Richey has earned a pair of preseason All-America nods as he prepares for the 2013 campaign. Both College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com tabbed Richey as a third team preseason All-American.
Richey will be entering his fourth season as the Husky starter where he has been a standout in net. In 2012, Richey notched 10 shutouts and allowed just 19 goals in 21 games. He is already among the all-time Husky leaders with 25 career shutouts and 164 career saves.
Richey was one of just two Pac-12 players to recognized by either publication as a preseason All-American with Aaron Kovar of Stanford being the other.
Richey's Dawgs are ranked No. 23 in the nation by College Soccer News, which is the second Pac-12 team behind No. 7 UCLA. In addition to playing UCLA twice, the Dawgs will also face preseason ranked teams UConn (No. 6) and Brown (No. 26), in addition to Santa Clara, SMU and Stanford who are receiving votes.
The Dawgs begin practice in mid-August in preparation for their opener on August 30 at Gonzaga.
