NANEA, Hawai’i – No. 4 Washington completes the fall season this week when it travels to the Big Island to play in the Pac-12 Preview. The Dawgs will compete November 4-5 at the Nanea golf Club outside of Kona, Hawai’i.

Nanea is considered one of the most beautiful and prestigious golf course in the United States, if not the World. The Pac-12 honored to be allowed on the course for this tournament that is technically hosted by the University of Hawai’i who will join the 11 Pac-12 schools that host women’s golf to make up the 12-team field.

“It’s an incredible venue,” said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “It’s very scenic with lava everywhere. The view you have from the golf course, especially when you get up a little higher on the course is just gorgeous. The clubhouse they made shaped like volcanoes, which really captures the essence of the island. It’s a very special place.”

The only thing that can compete with the golf course is the strength of the field as the Pac-12 has four of the top-5 ranked teams in the nation. No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 USC, the No. 4 Dawgs and No. 5 Stanford headline the group that also includes No. 8 Arizona State, No. 12 Arizona, No. 20 Oregon, No. 23 California, No. 42 Colorado, Oregon State, Washington State and host Hawai’i.

The fact that the Pac-12 is able to play a tournament at this venue is not lost on Mulflur.

“It’s awesome. Mr. Roberts basically donated the course and you don’t get that kind of exposure very often. The fact that they are doing it for the women’s teams makes it just that much sweeter. It’s going to be a special week, it really is. We can’t wait to get over there.”

Representing the Dawgs this week will be SooBin Kim, Cyd Okino, Charlotte Thomas, Jennifer Yang and Kelli Bowers. Thomas is coming off a sensational fifth-place finish at the Stanford Invitational that saw four of these players finish in the top-11.

The 54-hole event is the first non-member tournament ever to be held at par-73, 6,112-yard Nanea Golf Club in the 10-year history of the course. The golfers will play 36 holes on Mon. Nov. 4th and 18 holes on Tues. Nov. 5th, with each morning round beginning with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HT (10:30 a.m. PT).

The Dawgs will tee off holes 1-5, playing with UCLA, Colorado and Oregon State.

The member’s only golf course, built in 2003, is the creation of financiers George Roberts and Charles Schwab. The clubhouse at Nanea was constructed to resemble Kona Island’s five volcanoes, while the course, designed by David McLay Kidd, was carved from a mountainside on the Big Island with lava rock lining the far stretches of playable area before it drops into the Pacific Ocean.
