SEATTLE – One of the most intense collegiate rowing rivalries on the west coast will see the No. 1 California Golden Bears host the No. 2 University of Washington Huskies this weekend in Redwood Shores, Calif. for the 103rd dual between the two perennial rowing powerhouses. Races are scheduled to being at 9 a.m. PT.

The men's varsity eight winner each year takes home the Schoch Cup, named after Washington legend Delos Schoch, who lettered three years (1934-36) as a Husky oarsman. The Huskies currently lead the all-time Schoch Cup series an impressive 72-29-1, including a current streak of seven years.
Also over the past two years, the UW men have completed two consecutive sweeps across all four races against the Bears.
Both teams will head into Saturday with, so far, undefeated seasons, adding extra tension to the already heightened atmosphere between the two top crews in the country.
No. 1 Cal has already battled some tough boats this season and come out victorious. At the San Diego Crew Classic the Bears toppled Stanford, Northeastern, Syracuse, George Washington and British Columbia to take home the Copley Cup. They have also taken home dual victories against No. 14 Oregon State and No. 15 Wisconsin at the Stanford Invitational last weekend.
But the No. 2 crews from UW will provide, by far, the hardest test the Bears have seen this season. The Dawgs have already seen dual sweeps against No. 8 Brown and No. 11 Stanford, as well as sweeps at the Husky Open against No. 14 Oregon State, No. 20 Drexel as well as Western Washington.
So far the men have been perfect out on the Montlake Cut, but are excited to take on the course at Redwood Shores.
