Two former varsity athletes – Karen Bryant and Lou Gellermann – will be inducted in the University of Washington's Alumni Hall of Fame, the Department of Communications announced today.
Bryant ('02), a former Husky basketball player, is the chief executive officer of the Seattle Storm and has led the team to a pair of WNBA championships. Bryant also served as director of operations for the Seattle Reign of the American Basketball League and was recognized as the Seattle Sports Executive of the Year at the 2010 Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards.
Gellermann ('58), perhaps better known as the long-time public address voice at Husky Stadium, was a member of the 1958 UW varsity eight men's crew that beat a Soviet boat in the USSR in one of the first U.S. sporting events broadcast from behind the Iron Curtain. Gellermann's boat beat the Leningrad Trud Rowing Club, which had edged the Huskies for the Grand Challenge Cup ant the Royal Henley Regatta earlier that year.
Gellerman, along with the entire 1958 varsity eight, was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame (athletics) in 1984.
The UW Alumni Hall of Fame inductions will take place Oct. 15 at 5:00 p.m. at the University of Washington Club. For more information, click here.
