IRA Honors Varsity Eight, Callahan

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) have announced the recipients of their End of the Year Awards. Six awards were voted on by coaches after the National Championships in Sacramento, California.

The Huskies’ Varsity Eight was selected as the Heavyweight Crew of the Year after going undefeated in the 2013 season, capping it off with a win at the IRA National Championship on June 2nd in Lake Natoma. It was the Huskies’ 3rd straight and 16th overall National Title.

Huskies Head Coach Mike Callahan received The Heavyweight Coach of the Year Award. In six years at the helm of the Washington Men’s Crew program, Callahan has won four national championships and finished second twice.

Men’s Lightweight Coach of the Year: Scott Alwin (Columbia)

Women’s Lightweight Crew of the Year: Stanford University

Women’s Lightweight Coach of the Year: Al Acosta (Stanford)
