SEATTLE - The Husky distance runners are running down the last few days of their summer vacations, before reporting a week from today. The run for the postseason this year will include a new invitational here in Seattle, at Jefferson Park Golf Course, on October 4.
The inaugural Washington Invitational will feature a number of top programs from around the country, including Villanova, Oklahoma, Northern Arizona, Indiana, the Virginia men's team, Portland, and Boise State, as well as a strong Pac-12 contingent including Stanford, the Oregon women's team, UCLA, and Utah. Jefferson Park Golf Course has hosted the 2010 Pac-10 Championships and 2012 NCAA West Regional Championships in recent years, and the Huskies are looking to make it a regular stop for high level college cross country.
The season-opening Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park won't be going anywhere, however, as the Huskies will still kick things off in West Seattle on Sept. 20. After the Washington Invitational, UW will take its first road trip, heading back to the adidas Wisconsin Invitational in Madiscon, Wisc. on Oct. 17.
The Pac-12 Championships move to Oakland, Calif. this year at the Metropolitan Golf Links on Halloween. From there it's another trip to the Bay Area, as Stanford hosts the West Regional meet on Nov. 14 at the Stanford Golf Course. The final stop once again this season is Terre Haute, Indiana, where the top-31 teams on the men's and women's side will contest the NCAA Champoinships on Saturday, November 22.
