Hayward To Play For Canada In World Championships

Victoria Hayward, who completed her outstanding college career at Washington this past spring, will represent Canada in the ISF XIV World Championship Softball tournament start Friday, Aug., 15, in Haarlem, The Netherlands.

Fans can follow all of the action via live streaming. The Canadian National Team website (see link) provides a handy schedule with links to stats and the live stream. Team Canada, which will play in group A along with Puerto Rico, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, China, Japan, Russia and Cuba, opens play vs. Puerto Rico Friday at 4:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

Group B consists of Australia, Botswana, Chinese Taipei, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States. Teams play group games each day Friday through Thursday, Aug. 21 before the medal rounds begin. The gold medal will be awarded on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Hayward capped her time at Washington by earning NFCA first-team All-America last spring. She was fifth in the Pac-12 with her .414 average and didn't make an error all season.
