JOHN'S CREEK, Ga. -- Husky senior Cheng-Tsung Pan continued his run at the U.S. Amateur, winning in the first round of match play. Pan defeated Zach Healy 4 & 2 to advance to Thursday's Round of 32.

Pan entered match play as the No. 3 seed after finishing tied for third during the 36 holes of stroke play at 5-under 138. He used a quick start to win easily over Healy, a top recruit of Georgia that will begin his college career next season.

Healy struggled out of the gate as Pan just needed three pars to go 3-up after the first three holes. He was 4-up after six holes and got it to 5-up after 12 holes. Healy would fight back and win the 14th and 15th holes, but Pan clinched with a par to win the 16th.

Pan was steady all day, parring the first 11 holes, before birdying the 12th. His only bogey came on the par-four 14th.

Pan advances to face Bryson DeChambeau of SMU for a match teeing off at 6:45 a.m., PT, at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Thursday could include two matches if Pan were to advance. The other side of the bracket has Robby Shelton of Alabama and Roman Robledo of Houston facing off in the Round of 32.
