SEATTLE - The first coaches poll of the season was trotted out today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and the Huskies find themselves right where they wound up at the end of last December, ranked No. 4 in the nation.

Washington was fourth in the final 2013 poll after reaching the NCAA semifinals and ending the year with a 30-3 record. The top two spots went to defending champion Penn State, which defeated UW in the Final Four, and Texas, another 2013 Final Four participant. NCAA runner-up Wisconsin starts off ranked sixth, but did earn eight first place votes. Wisconsin will visit Alaska Airlines Arena to face the Huskies on Sept. 19.

After Penn State and Texas, Stanford takes the No. 3 spot ahead of the Huskies at No. 4, then USC comes in at No. 5. The Pac-12 preseason coaches poll had Stanford on top, then USC, then Washington, and . The only other Pac-12 squad in the AVCA poll is Arizona State at No. 25, with Oregon, California, Arizona, Colorado, and UCLA all receiving votes.

Also notable from a Husky perspective is BYU at No. 9 in the rankings, as UW will visit Provo for a tough early season test on Sept. 5. That gives the Huskies four Top-10 opponents on their regular season schedule.

Last year the Huskies were ranked No. 5 in the preseason poll. Washington has appeared in every top-25 poll dating back to September of 2003. Over the past ten years, the Huskies have been ranked in the Top-10 in 149 out of the 160 possible polls.
