WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Dawgs continued a great summer as Thursday, Tyler Salsbury finished off a win at the Washington State Golf Association Men's Amateur Championship. Salsbury parred the final hole to complete 54 holes at 4-under 209 to win at the Wine Valley Golf Club.

Salsbury began his summer with some national attention after a noteworthy round, shooting a 57 at the Enumclaw Golf Course. That round was just for fun, however. This week, Salsbury proved he can be a champion when it counts, holding off future teammate Frank Garber to win his state's championship.

Salsbury entered the final round with a two-stroke lead after rounds of 3-under 68 and 1-under 70 to begin the tournament. However, bogeys on the second and fourth holes made things interesting. He responded with three birdies on 6, 12 and 13 to reclaim control of the tournament.

Despite Salsbury holding strong, future teammate and freshman-to-be Garber made a run from two groups ahead. Garber birdied 12 and 13, then eagled 16 to get to 3-under for his round and the tournament.

It would prove to be one stroke short, though, as Salsbury parred the 17th and 18th to hang on for the victory. The Enumclaw native already has a Washington Junior Golf Association Championship to his credit and now adds the WSGA Men's Amateur.

Garber would settle for a tie for second, just one stroke back.

Other Huskies to compete in the tournament were Chris Babcock and Greg Gildea who tied for 27th at 9-over 222.
