GLEN COVE, N.Y. -- Husky sophomore-to-be Eimi Koga continues to advance at the U.S. Women's Amateur, defeating future teammate Jing Yan, 2 & 1. She advances to face Alison Lee later Thursday afternoon.
Koga entered match play as the No. 44 seed and defeated No. 21 seed Alejandra Cangrejo in the first round. She then faced her future teamamte, Jing Yan, an incoming freshman for the Dawgs next year. Koga jumped out early lead, getting to 4-up after just five holes.
Yan then made her run, getting back to down just one hole after a par on the 14th hole. Koga would hold on from there, however, birdying the 16th and parring the 17th to win 2 & 1.
Koga will now face Alison Lee, a familiar foe as one of the stars of the UCLA team. The match is scheduled to tee off at 10:30 a.m. The winner will advance to Friday at the Nassau Country Club for the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur.
