FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Sophomore-to-be Corey Pereira continued his dominant run at the 48th Pacific Coast Amateur, winning the individual title by eight strokes. Pereira fired a final round of 3-under 67 to finish the week at 19-under 261.
Pereira followed up a pair of 62’s in the second and third rounds with a steady final round to seal the victory. He made four birdies and just one bogey to cruise to the commanding win.
Pereira becomes the sixth Husky to win the Pacific Coast Amateur, a list that includes Husky greats, Chris Williams (2011), Alex Prugh (2005), James Lepp (2003), Brock Mackenzie (2002) and Corey Prugh (2001).
Jonathan Sanders also played well all week with four rounds of par or better. He shot an even-par 70 on Friday to finish at 3-under and tied for 18th.
Incoming freshman Frank Garber also had a final round of even-par 70. He finished the week at 4-over 284 in tie for 35th.
In a tie for 40th were Tyler Salsbury, Chris Babcock and incoming freshman Jordan Lu. Salsbury finished with a 3-over 73 for a week of 5-over, while Babcock had a second-straight round of 1-under 69. Lu followed up his win at the B.C. Amateur in that tie after a final round of 2-over 72.
Rounding out the Dawgs playing at the Pacific Coast Amateur was Kevin Kwon who finished with a 2-over 72 and placed tied for 52nd at 8-over.
