DUPONT, Wash. -- Each of the four Huskies competing at the U.S. Women Amateur Public Links Championhips are off to a strong start in their home state at the Home Course. SooBin Kim Kim is 2-under and tied for fifth to lead four Dawgs in the top-20.
Kim bogeyed her first hole, the 10th, but then played flawless golf from there, making three birdies and 14 pars. She is just three strokes off the lead of Cindy Ha.
She is in good position to advance to the 64-player field of match play that begins Wednesday. The top 64 will move on to match play after Tuesday's second round, which completes 36 holes of stroke play.
Kim is not the only Husky in good position, however, as each of the other three Dawgs is in the top-20. Eimi Koga leads that group at 1-under in a tie for 12th. Koga was steady throughout with just one bogey to go with two birdies.
Rounding out the Husky squad are Jennifer Yang and Cyd Okino who each fired rounds of even-par 72 and are tied for 18th. Yang lead the Dawgs with four birdies, but also had four bogeys. Okino was more consistent with two birdies and two bogeys.
The Dawgs will compete stroke play Tuesday as each looks to improve seeding and advance to the match play portion of the tournament.
