SEATTLE - Fresh off of top-10 finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Husky All-Americans Derrick Daigre and Liberty Miller will step up to the U.S. Outdoor Championships to compete against the nation's very best. Held in Sacramento at Sacramento State University's Hornet Stadium, the national championships will run from Thursday to Sunday.
Along with the two current Huskies, two former standouts will be vying for national titles as well. Brad Walker, a five-time U.S. Champion, will go for number six in the pole vault. And two-time Pac-10 Champion Katie (Follett) Mackey will be racing in the 1,500m and potentially the 5,000m as well. She recently ran for Team USA at the IAAF World Relay Championships on the silver medal winning 4x1500m team.
Daigre is looking to continue his outstanding junior season that saw him win the Pac-12 title at 800-meters and go on to reach the NCAA final, where he finished eighth overall to earn First Team All-America honors. He'll have a first round race on Thursday at 4:40 p.m. The semifinals are on Friday and the finals on Sunday.
Miller earned her first All-America honors with a Second Team distinction after she made the NCAA steeplechase finals and finished 10th in a PR of 10:03.34. The first round of the women's steeple is Thursday at 7:50 p.m. with a final on Saturday. This will be a first USA Championship experience for both Miller and Daigre.
