SEATTLE -- The sixth-ranked University of Washington women’s rowing team will look to capture its fourth NCAA team national championship title this weekend as the Huskies head to Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. for the 2014 NCAA Rowing Championships. The 2014 season will conclude with the three-day event that begins on Friday, May 30, with the grand final heats on Sunday, June 1.

Full updates of the day’s action will be available through the team’s Twitter account, @UWHuskyCrew, and through the @GameDayIndy feed. There will be live video here and updated results here. Tickets can be purchased through the NCAA here and a complete spectators guide is here.

UW will head to its 18th-straight championship appearance and is one of only three teams to be invited to the event every year since the NCAA began organizing the championship in 1997.

The Huskies are sending three boats out on the water this weekend, one in each event: the varsity 8+, second varsity 8+ and the varsity 4+. The top two teams from each heat will automatically advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, while the remained will have one last shot to make the semis in the afternoon repechages.

Up first for the V8+ on Friday will be a field including Massachusetts, No. 15 Indiana, No. 3 Brown, Harvard and Boston University. The 2V8+ will also take on a boat from Brown and they will be joined by San Diego, No. 8 Michigan and No. 16 Wisconsin.

Only the V4+ will take on Pac-12 rivals on the first day of competition when they will face off with No. 14 Washington State and No. 2 Stanford with Boston, Indiana and Massachusetts rounding out the field.

Washington has won three National Championships since the NCAA began organizing the competition in 1997. The last Huskies NCAA team title came in 2001, featuring a lineup that included three eventual Olympians: Rika Geyser, Anna (Mickelson) Cummins and Mary Whipple. The varsity eight has won an NCAA national title four times (1997, 1998, 2001 & 2002), the second varsity eight once (2002), while the varsity four has captured four championships (1997, 1998, 2001 & 2008). Overall, the Huskies have won 11 National Championships.

Last season, the Huskies finished sixth in the nation at the NCAAs, highlighted by two boats reaching the grand finals.

Two weekends ago, the Huskies took home the second-place team finish at the Pac-12 Championships after three-out-of-four podium finishes including a gold for the novice 8+ (who is not eligible for the NCAA Championships) and silvers for the V8+ and the V4+. The Dawgs will look to capitalize on this momentum going into the national championship to improve on their finish from 2013.
