SEATTLE -- The University of Washington Gymnastics team has named their captains for the 2015 season. The team has chosen the three rising seniors, McKenzie Fechter, Jackie McCartin and Madison Podlucky, to serve in this leadership role for next year's season.

"With careful thought and deliberation, and with the input of the team members and staff, I really feel all three bring valuable qualities of leadership to our team and will be able to lead effectively together," head coach Joanne Bowers said.

"Mack is the most willing to speak up when needed, Jackie tends to be a good listening ear to the younger gymnasts, and Maddie has such a great work ethic and positive outlook. All three have shown they can compete at a high level and have shown their commitment to our program by demonstrating good leadership characteristics," Bowers furthered.

All three student-athletes greatly contributed to the team's success during the 2014 season, including a second-place finish for McCartin on beam at the Pac-12 championships. This performance helped secure her a spot on the All-Pac-12 beam team.

Fechter showed off her leadership potential when the team was faced with the injury of freshman all-arounder Janae Janik. Fechter stepped up and returned to the floor line-up for the GymDawgs after having been out of the event since the previous season because of injuries. She also served on the 2014 team leadership council.

Podlucky was a solid event specialist for UW, providing consistent routines and scores for the GymDawgs on vault and floor. Last season saw Podlucky set career highs on both events, a 9.800 on vault and a 9.875 on floor.

"We feel our team will benefit greatly with these three young women as our team captains. We realize it is a tough job to do well and it is a great opportunity to step up and help our team in a new role for them. It is very exciting to see such strong leaders emerge to help our team move forward with our goal of being Nationally competitive," Bowers finished.
