FIFE, Scotland -- The Ladies Golf Union of Great Britain and Ireland announced the selections of the 2014 Curtis Cup Team, which includes Husky sophomore Charlotte Thomas. Thomas will join the squad for the Curtis Cup at the Saint Louis Country Club from June 6-8.
Thomas becomes just the second Husky to play in this prestigious international event, joining UW legend Paige Mackenzie back in 2006. That year, Mackenzie went 3-1 in match play to help the American team to the victory.
The Curtis Cup is match play tournament that pits the top amateurs from the United States against the best amateurs from Great Britain and Ireland. Thomas, who is a native of Surrey, England and attended school in Singapore will represent Great Britain along with seven others.
Thomas has been one of Washington's top players this season, helping the Dawgs to a top-10 ranking all year. She opened the season with her second collegiate win at the Topy Cup in Japan and has three top-10's this year.
Last season, Thomas became the first Husky to win her first collegiate tournament, taking the Oregon State Invitational. She is also an accomplished amateur worldwide, winning the English Mid-Amateur last summer.
Thomas and the Dawgs resume the collegiate season on Thursday as the NCAA West Regional begins play. The Huskies are hosting the event at Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort on May 8-10.
