BELLEVUE, Wash. – SeattleU starter Skyler Genger held the fifth-ranked Washington baseball team scoreless in his seven and one-third innings of work to lead the Redhawks to a 1-0 win over the Huskies Tuesday night at Bannerwood Park.

Husky southpaw Will Ballowe (3-1), who was making his first start of the season, gave up just the one run (unearned) on two hits over four and a third innings, but took the loss.

The two teams combined for just six hits in the two-hour, 15-minute game.

The Huskies fell to 27-9-1 on the the season while the Redhawks improved to .500 at 18-18.

The game was the first of three scheduled meetings between the Redhawks and Huskies this season. They next play one another next Tuesday at the UW.

After a brisk four and a half innings, SeattleU broke through with the game's first run in the bottom of the fifth. Left fielder Sam Finfer singled and Cash McGuire walked to begin the inning, after both runners advanced on a bunt, Finfer came home on a passed ball. After a walk and a pitching change, the Huskies managed a strike-em-out, throw-em-out double play to end the threat with SU in front, 1-0.

Washington's lone early scoring threat came in the third. Will Sparks walked and, after an out, Erik Forgione singled to put runners at the corners. But Sparks was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a chopper to third from Braden Bishop. Following that, the Huskies didn't get a runner past second base the rest of the way.

In the eighth, Husky left fielder Jack Meggs led off with a single. After a sacrifice moved Meggs to second, former Husky pitcher Mac Acker, a transfer to SeattleU, relieved Genger and got the final two outs to end the inning. Acker, normally a starter, pitched the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Washington returns to Pac-12 action this weekend when Washington State comes to Husky Ballpark for a three-game series Friday through Sunday. All three of those game will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.
