WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – The Pac-12 Conference announced Wednesday morning by Commissioner Larry Scott that three University of Washington gymnast have been named to the all-conference team; sophomore Allison Northey, first-team all-around, junior Jackie McCartin, first-team beam and senior Aliza Vaccher, second-team all-around.

This is the first time since 2011 that the GymDawgs have had multiple athletes make the All-Pac-12 team and head coach Joanne Bowers couldn’t be more excited.

“We’re so excited and proud to have these girls get the recognition that they deserve after working so hard all season. It hasn’t been an easy one, but Aliza, Allie and Jackie have kept their heads up and kept working everyday,” Bowers said. “It really shows that we do have amazing talent in our program despite some of the depth issues we have faced this season.”

ALLISON NORTHEY, First-team All-Pac-12, All-around

The sophomore from Sammamish, Wash. has really come into her own this season. Being one of only two consistent all-arounders put a lot of pressure on Northey, but she responded beautifully.

She is currently ranked 47th nationally in the all-around with an Regional Qualifying Score of 39.170. Her season-high came just last weekend at Pac-12 Championships where she tallied a 39.300, which tied her career-high.

Northey’s season highs include a beautiful 9.900 beam routine, also at Pac-12s, and 9.850s on vault, bars and floor.

Her 9.900 on beam earned her a share of the second-place finish in the conference, along with her teammate Jackie McCartin.

“I’m so proud of Allie. Her amazing performance last week at the championship really deserves to be recognized and I’m really happy that it is. I’m also so excited that she is only a sophomore and I can’t wait to see what the next two years hold for her!,” Bowers said.

JACKIE McCARTIN, First-Team All-Pac-12, Beam

The West Covina, Calif. native has served as an extremely strong specialist for the GymDawgs all season. Even when it was necessary for her to jump in the all-around line-up, McCartin never let her focus on her two strongest events (bars and beam) slip.

Jackie’s beam RQS of 9.865 is currently tied for 31st in the national rankings. Her season-high performance on the event also came at Pac-12s where she got her first 9.900 of the season, which earned her a share of the second-place finish in the conference.

“Jackie has been through so much and she has come so far for us. She does such beautiful routines and skills. I’m unbelievably proud of her and so excited we get her for one more year,” Bowers said.

ALIZA VACCHER, Second-Team All-Pac-12, All-around

The lone-senior and second half of the all-around pair for the Huskies has had an amazing senior season. The highlight came on her senior night against Oregon State and Seattle Pacific when she scored a career-high 39.425 after she ended the night with a 9.925 on floor.

Vaccher is currently tied for 42nd nationally with an RQS of 39.185.

Last weekend she also crowned Pac-12 Vault Champion when she landed a near-perfect 9.950. The score was high enough to earn her the co-championship with an athlete from Utah and two from Arizona.

Other than her 9.925 on floor and her 9.95 on vault Vaccher has season highs of 9.850 on bars and beam.

“Aliza deserves this so much. I’m so proud of everything she has done not just this year but over her whole career as a Husky. She has so much talent and we have been extremely lucky to have her compete for us, and I’m so excited to see what she is going to do at Regionals and hopefully nationals. We are really going to miss her a lot,” Bowers concluded.
