TEMPE, Ariz.  – Huskies’ starter Jared Fisher threw an eight-inning complete game, but Arizona State came away with a 4-1 win in the Pac-12 Baseball opener for both teams Friday night at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

The loss snapped the Huskies’ win streak at seven games. Washington fell to 10-5-1 on the season and Arizona State improved to 9-6.

Fisher (1-2) allowed nine hits, four earned runs and struck out five batters in his stellar performance, but he was out-dueled by Arizona State starter Brett Lilek.

Lilek (3-0) kept the Huskies at bay over 7 innings of work. He gave up just four hits and a lone earned run while striking out six Huskies.

Washington's offense would threaten several times during the game, but no opportunity was better than the second inning. They would load the bases with one out, but Lilek squirmed out of the jam by getting Robert Pehl to hit into an inning-ending double play.

The Huskies inability to score would that inning would prove costly in the bottom when the Sun Devils put up a three-spot against Fisher. The first two batters Christopher Beall and Colby Wood reached on singles and both would eventually come around to score on a David Greer ground out, followed by a Johnny Sewald double. Brian Serven would follow with a single up the middle that scored Sewald to make it 3-0.

ASU would add another run in the fourth inning to make it 4-0. David Graybill hit a one-out double and came around to score when the next hitter Beall singled up the middle.

Washington finally got on the board in seventh inning when Trevor Mitsui led off with a single and came around to score on a two-out triple down the right field line by Erik Forgione. But it would be all the scoring the offense could muster on a night when the Huskies only had four hits.

Washington continues Pac-12 play against Arizona State on Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. tilt. Huskies’ righty Tyler Davis (3-1, 1.80) will take the hill against ASU left-hander Ryan Kellogg (1-2, 4.30) at Packard Stadium.
