SEATTLE – The University of Washington men’s tennis team continues its eight-match homestand as they host their second-straight ranked opponent in No. 45 Virgini Tech on Wednesday, March 12 at 3 p.m. at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Dawgs are 7-6 on the season and have just two non-conference matches left before Pac-12 play starts.
The Huskies are coming off of a big 5-2 win over No. 42 Minnesota which moved them back into the rankings this week at No. 72. After losing the doubles point, the Dawgs rattled off five victories in singles play all of which were taken care of in two sets. Newcomer Gal Hakak won at the number two spot to move his record in dual action to 8-6 on the season. The Dawgs also got wins from Emmett Egger, Jeff Hawke, Viktor Farkas and Daffra Sanon.
The Hokies are 7-4 on the year with a 1-1 record in ACC play. They're led by by nationally-ranked sophomore Amerigo Contini, who moved up to 24th in the ITA singles standings this week. He is 15-5 on the season and has posted an 8-2 record in dual matches. Sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus is 15-6 on the season, including a 6-4 mark in dual matches. Additionally, junior Hunter Koontz has posted an 8-2 record in dual matches.
