PROVO, Utah – The University of Washington scored a 194.300 in a loss to the Brigham Young Cougars on Friday night who scored a 196.125, their second highest team total of the season.

After fighting through two falls in the bar line-up last weekend, the Huskies made a definite bounce back including a beautiful 9.825 routine from Aliza Vaccher and a huge 9.800 for sophomore Sheridan Metcalf. Freshman Alexandra Yacalis made her GymDawg debut on bars, and in the all-around, and scored a 9.650.

All-arounder Allison Northey also had a strong showing with a 9.775, which helped her place third overall.

Moving to vault the team had one of their highest totals on the event so far this season, a 48.800. The rotation was highlighted by junior Madison Podlucky’s career-high 9.800. Yacalis also tallied a 9.800 and Vaccher and Northey came in close behind the team leaders both with 9.775s.

In the third rotation there were once again strong routines from Podlucky and Yacalis who both scored 9.775s. Freshman Faith Morrison made her debut on the event for the Huskies.

The GymDawgs ended the meet on beam where they recorded three 9.850s to lead the team from junior specialist McKenzie Fechter, Northey and Vaccher. Fechter’s 9.850 tied her career-high and set a new season-high. For Northey, it tied her career-high.

“At this point, there are no excuses. We are a better team than this and we still have a couple of opportunities to show that. We are going to work hard and do what we can do over the next week to get there. We are really excited to be back at home next weekend so we can be back in our element,” head coach Joanne Bowers said of the meet.

Next up for the Huskies is a home tri-meet on Fri. March 14 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Washington will host No. 15 Oregon State and Seattle Pacific at Alaska Airlines Arena for Senior Night where lone-senior Vaccher will be honored.
