TARZANA, Calif. – No. 9 Washington finished out the Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday, shooting a round of 23-over on a difficult golf course to remain in sixth place. The Dawgs finished the week at 47-over 911 as only tournament champion and top-ranked USC finished under par.

The Trojans shot a tournament-best 1-under 863 to top No. 17 Pepperdine by 13 strokes. No. 2 UCLA finished third, while No. 11 Arizona and No. 12 Oklahoma State were also in the top five. UW finished in sixth of 17 teams, including ahead of three others ranked in the top-50 and four other Pac-12 schools.

“It’s funny because the course had dried out, so you think it would play easier,” said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “The scores were just really high today. It’s frustrating because if we had played better there was room to move up the leaderboard.”

The Dawgs were led by Jennifer Yang who continued her consistent play to earn a top-10 finish. Yang shot a round of 2-over 74 on Tuesday to finish at 5-over 74 for the tournament. Her 74, which was one of the top scores of the day, included two birdies and four bogeys.

“Jen just never makes mental errors on the golf course,” said Mulflur. “She know where to be aggressive and just understands how to play golf. I can only remember her making one mental error the entire time she has been here. She is the best I have ever had in that area.”

Also with a top-20 finish for Washington was Charlotte Thomas. The sophomore fired a round of 8-over 80 for her final round to finish in a tie for 18th. Thomas struggled out of the gate, going to 8-over after a double-bogey on the 10th hole, but got it together to play the final eight holes at even par.

Finishing in a tie for 29th was Eimi Koga after her second-consecutive round of 5-over 77. Koga finished the week at 14-over 230 in just her second tournament in the Husky lineup.

The final scorer for Washington on Tuesday was Ying Luo with a round of 8-over 80. Luo finished tied for 42nd at 18-over for the tournament.

Cyd Okino finished the week tied for 70th at 30-over 246. She shot a round of 83 on Tuesday.

The Dawgs will next compete in two weeks at the Maui Invitational. The three-day tournament from March 23-25 will be another important test for the Huskies as they prepare for the Championship season.
