TARZANA, Calif. -- No. 9 Washington completed a long day of 36 holes at El Caballero Country Club and currently sits in sixth place after two rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational. The Dawgs shot round of 11-over 299 and 13-over 301 to finish the day at 24-over 600.

“We didn’t play particularly well today,” said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “We knew it would be tough with leaving SooBin at home, but we just made way too many big numbers today.”

No. 1 USC leads the tournament, finishing as the only team below par at 3-under. No.2 and co-host UCLA is five strokes back at 2-over, while No. 17 and co-host Pepperdine is in third place at 5-over. No. 12 Oklahoma State and No. 11 Arizona sit in fourth and fifth place just nine and six shot up on the Dawgs, respectively.

Washington was led by Charlotte Thomas who is tied for 12th after identical rounds of 1-over 73. Thomas is seven strokes back of overall leader Doris Chen of USC who is 5-under. Thomas made eight birdies on the day, but it was a double-bogey on each round that kept the junior from finishing under par.

Also playing well was Jennifer Yang who is one stroke back of Thomas in a tie for 15th. Yang finished with rounds of 2-over 74 and 1-over 73, making four birdies and seven bogey over her 36 holes.

Playing in just her second tournament as part of the Husky lineup was Eimi Koga. The freshman is currently tied for 31st after rounds of 4-over 76 and 5-over 77. Koga had a good round going for her second 18, which including holing out from the fairway on the par-4 ninth. She stumbled down the stretch, however, playing the final four holes in 6-over.

“Eimi was very solid, she just had a tough finish,” said Mulflur. “She hit a lot of great shots, so it is nice to see her getting comfortable out here.”

The final scoring golfer for the Dawgs in both rounds was Ying Luo. Luo fired back-to-back rounds of 5-over 77 to sit in a tie for 37th at 10-over for the tournament.

Finally, Cyd Okino is tied for 70th at 19-over. Okino shot a round of 7-over 79, before struggling to an 84 in the second round.

Washington will return to El Caballero for Tuesday’s final round. The Dawgs will tee off the first tee beginning at 8:20 a.m., playing with the two teams it is chasing, Oklahoma State and Arizona.
