SEATTLE – On Friday, Feb. 27 the University of Washington Gymnastics team will take on the fifth-ranked Utah Utes on the road in Salt Lake City at 5:00 p.m. PT.  The meet will be broadcasted live by the Pac-12 Network, live scoring will be available here and the most up to date information from the team can be found by following the team on Twitter (@UWGymnastics).

The Huskies are looking to have a huge meet this weekend after having dropped from the top 25 after the rankings switched from average total score to Region Qualifying Score. A solid performance from the GymDawgs will raise their away meet average, likely boosting them back up into the rankings.

“We have a really great opportunity this weekend to get a great away score against an excellent Utah team,” head coach Joanne Bowers said. “We got back to work over our couple practices this week and I’m really pleased with what we got done in the short week. We are ready to get out and show everyone what we really are capable of.”

The team will again look to build off of all-around scores from senior Aliza Vaccher, sophomore Allison Northey and freshman Janae Janik. But the pressure will be on the specialists of the team to push the team total higher.

“I always say that your scores really depend on the fourth, fifth and sixth girls in your lineups. Everyone has those top three girls that are always going to score well. It’s those other three that separate the best teams in the country from each other. We have the talent to do that on this team,” Bowers continued.

Standing out among the UW specialist for the past couple of weeks is junior Jackie McCartin who scored a 9.925, the highest individual score on the team this season, on bars just two weeks ago, setting a new career-high for the West Covina, Calif. native; that meet she also saw a 9.875 on beam, her season high. Last week versus Cal, she tallied 9.825s on both bars and beam, taking home a second place tie on bars.

The Utes are coming off of a 197.575-196.450 win against No. 11 Oregon State. While Utah leads the competitive series against the Huskies, at their last duel meeting in Feb. 2013 the two teams ended tied at 195.975 in Seattle. A 9.925 floor score from Vaccher clinched the tie.
