SURPRISE, Ariz.  – The Husky Baseball team managed only four hits against fourth-ranked Oregon State on Monday morning and lost 3-2 in a non-conference game between the two Pac-12 foes at Surprise Stadium.

Washington falls to 3-4-1 on the season and were 1-3 down in the Arizona desert.

Beavers' starter Jake Thompson (2-0) allowed just two hits and one earned runs in 6.2 innings to earn the win. OSU improved to 6-2 on the season.

The Huskies pitching staff was solid on Monday with three pitchers keeping the Beavers off the scoreboard in all but one inning. Starter Tyler Davis was the tough-luck loser after giving up three runs in the fourth inning; the only inning the Beavers mustered any runs of their own.

The Huskies took the 1-0 lead in the third inning on a RBI single by Andrew Ely. Austin Rei was hit by a pitch from Thompson to begin the inning, sacrificed to second and came around to score on Ely’s two-out hit – the first base knock of the game for Washington.

Oregon State finally got to Davis in the bottom of the fourth inning. After two outs, the Beavers put runners on the corners with back-to-back singles. Logan Ice cleared them with double and came around to score on a single by Billy King to make the score 3-1.

Washington mounted a rally in the ninth inning with two outs when Trevor Mitsui reached after begin hit by a pitch and Jack Meggs walked. Pinch-runner Matt Jackson came around to score from second after a pinch-hit RBI single by Duncan Hendrickson. The Beavers escaped further damage when Chandler Eden came in and got pinch-hitter Kyle London to ground out to end the game.

Ely had half of Washington’s hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a RBI.

Oregon State’s Kavin Keyes led OSU’s offense going 4-for-4 at the plate.

Washington returns home and will host UC Davis next week in Tacoma at Cheney Stadium. The two teams play Friday at 5:00 p.m., followed by two game on Saturday (1:00 and 6:00 p.m.) and wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
