SEATTLE – Sand Volleyball Head Coach Keegan Cook today announced the addition of volunteer assistant coach Jen Baklenko, who has a vast array of experiences within the sport of volleyball on the court and in the sand.

Baklenko will work with Cook and Director of Volleyball Jim McLaughlin as the Huskies continue to build the foundation for the new sand team.

A standout indoor player while at the University of San Diego, Baklenko was the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1994. She then served as an assistant coach for the Torerors, and also coached two years at the University of Toledo. She played professionally both indoors and on the beach on the following tours: WPVA, 4’s BL Pro Beach Tour, NVA, MPVA, and the USPV, as well as being the captain for the Puget Sound Region’s PVL team in 2012.  She was on the Gold Medal teams for the East team at the Olympic Festival and the 2000 USPV Millennium Cup.  Baklenko was the tour MVP for the MPVA and the team captain of the USPV team.

“As I have been learning about the local sand volleyball scene and the venues and organizations, Jen’s name kept coming up as someone I needed to meet with,” says Cook. “She is very passionate about helping develop the sport of sand volleyball, but also helping our student athletes individually. She knows what it takes to be great indoors and in sand, and really wants to help our players become great, so I think she will be a tremendous resource for the girls and we’re lucky to have her.”

Baklenko currently heads the Island Thunder Volleyball Club here in the Puget Sound Region.
