HIGH SCHOOL: Named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Montana ... earned Parade All-America honorable mention, the second Montana player ever named to the Parade team, honorable mention or otherwise, and the first since 1990 ... also the Defensive Co-MVP of the Montana AA level as well as the first-team AA all-state at defensive end and tight end as a junior and senior ... racked up 57 tackles, 12 for a loss and 9.5 sacks while catching 55 passes for 917 yards and 11 touchdowns ... as a senior, helped lead the Hawks to a 14-0 record and the AA state championship while out-scoring opponents, 689 to 209, for the season ... as a junior, the team went 9-4 and made it to the state title game ... that season, posted 29 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks ... earned second-team all-state at tight end as a sophomore, when he scored 13 touchdowns ... also played on the varsity as a freshman ... listed as the No. 8 recruit in the Big Sky region by scout.com ... ranked the No. 1 recruit in Montana by ESPN ... also threw shot and discus in high school, finishing second in discus and fourth in shot at the state meet as a junior in 2013 ... played football for coach Troy Purcell.
