TUCSON, Ariz. – Saturday evening at the McKale Center the University of Washington Huskies earned their season best team total of 195.175 against the No. 13 Arizona Wildcats who won the close meet with a score of 196.500.
Sophomore standout Allison Northey was the rock of the team this week, taking the all-around title with a 39.050 and scoring at least 9.725 on all four events with a high of 9.800 on beam.
The first rotation on the uneven bars was again a great start for the GymDawgs. Freshmen Kaitlyn Duranczyk made her debut in the bar line-up on Saturday landing a 9.750. Fellow freshman, Janae Janik also had a stellar performance setting a new career, and season, high of 9.850 on bars. Sophomore Sheridan Metcalf also tied a season high of 9.850.
West Covina, Calif. native Jackie McCartin anchored the team with a career and season-high tying 9.875, which pushed the team ahead of the Wildcats at the end of the rotation 49.075-48.925. The event score was the highest of the season.
Moving to vault for the second rotation, the Huskies once again had a solid line-up. The team vault total was 48.675 for the second week in a row, the highest scores of the season.
The beam, which had given the Huskies trouble at Seattle Pacific on their previous road trip, saw vast improvement with a season-event high score of 49.025. This was largely due to the two season-high scores from McCartin who earned a 9.875 and fellow junior McKenzie Fechter who scored a 9.750.
