SEATTLE – This Friday the No. 21 University of Washington gymnasts will head across town to take on the Seattle Pacific Falcons (2-2) at Brougham Pavilion starting at 7:00 pm PT. This will be the first away meet of the season for the GymDawgs (2-2).
This is the 76th meeting between the two schools and the Dawgs lead the series an impressive 72-3. The last victory for SPU came on March 8, 2004 with a final score of 192.875–191.475.
On their first road trip, the Huskies will look to senior Aliza Vaccher once again to provide a strong base of scores to build upon. Vaccher is currently tied for 15th in the national individual rankings and tied her career best all-around score of 39.275 last Saturday versus Arizona State, San Jose State and UC Davis.
With the help of the senior’s points, the GymDawgs finished second at that quad meet with a team total of 194.825 behind ASU who tallied 195.900.
“We are excited to go on the road and only have to go across town. With such a young team, this will be a great first away meet,” head coach Joanne Bowers said. “Our team has been working hard on the detail work in practice and we have been trying to get a couple more vaulters ready. We want to keep improving our scores, we know that we can get better.”
The Falcons are coming off of a second place road finish with a team total of 190.450 at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. The quad-meet was rounded out by Wisconsin-La Crosse and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
