SEATTLE – On Saturday, Jan. 18 at 4:00 pm PT, Washington Gymnastics (0-1) will play host to Arizona State, San Jose State and UC Davis for a quad meet.

The Dawgs are coming off of a Bowers’ era record-high season opening score despite losing to No. 24 Minnesota on Monday.  The team is looking to capitalize on its high starting score and turn its luck around on Saturday.

“We are so excited to get to start off as well as we did, but we were somewhat disappointed in the first meet because of the expectations we have for ourselves. We want to live up to them this weekend,” said head coach Joanne Bowers.

To build on the initial success shown from the line-ups on Monday, much of the same routines will take to the floor this weekend.

Senior Aliza Vaccher, sophomore Allison Northey and freshmen Janae Janik  will be competing all-around and laying a solid foundation that will allow the team’s specialists to shine.

“We have such strong specialists this year. Between Jackie, Maddie and Sher I have no doubt that these girls are going to add so much depth and push us up in point totals,” Bowers commented on the specialists. “I’ve always said that it isn’t your top three girls who win meets for you. It is four, five and six and this year we have the line-up to do that.”

The SJSU Spartans (2-4) are recently coming off of an upset of a No. 25 ASU (1-1) team that will also be traveling up to Seattle for the quad meet. The Spartans ended with five gymnasts placing in the top three spots in all four events. Despite the loss, the Sun Devil vault line-up had a strong showing with five scores of 9.775 or higher.

The UC Davis Aggies (2-3) round out the competition, after a huge home opener against Alaska Anchorage that saw them sweep every individual event title. The Huskies topped the Aggies last season in a quad-meet hosted by UCLA. UW finished second in that match-up behind the Bruins with UC Davis coming in third.

This meet is camp reunion night for the GymDawgs, and admission will be free for anyone eighth grade or younger who comes to the meet in the camp t-shirt. For more information on tickets, visit or call the ticket office at (206) 543-2200.
