UW Ranked No. 20 In Preseason Poll

SEATTLE – The Washington women’s gymnastics team is ready to get on the floor and start working towards their 2014 goal – NCAA nationals.

UW is currently ranked No. 20 nationally in the 2014 GymInfo Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released Thursday morning. The Huskies are joined in the top 25 by each of the seven other Pac-12 schools.

After graduating five seniors at the end of last season, including individual national qualifier Lauren Rogers, the GymDawgs are excited to showcase their six new freshmen. These freshmen are going to add at least 15 new routines for the team to round out the strong returner presence in senior Aliza Vaccher, juniors McKenzie Fechter, Jackie McCartin and Madison Podlucky as well as the two sophomores Sheridan Metcalf and Allison Northey.

The poll highlights how tough the Huskies’ 2014 schedule is. Over the winter they will face eight teams that are ranked in the top 25 and another that received votes in the opening poll. Out of these eight competitions, five will see the team take-on top 15 opponents. Three of these match-ups will be against top 10 teams, including two home meets against No. 9 Stanford (Feb. 8) and No. 4 UCLA (Feb. 16).

At home the GymDawgs will also take on No. 14 Minnesota (Jan. 13), No. 25 Arizona State (Jan. 18) and No. 12 Oregon State (Mar. 14).

On the road UW will have tough meets against No. 17 Arizona (Feb. 1) and No. 22 California (Feb. 22). The biggest road challenge for them will be when they head down to Salt Lake City on Feb. 28 to face No. 6 Utah, who they tied last year at home.

The GymDawgs will open their season versus the No. 14 Minnesota Golden Gophers on Jan. 13 at 7:00 pm in Alaska Airlines Arena. For more information about purchasing tickets, click here.
