2013 MAC Herman Trophy Semifinalists

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Washington senior defender Taylor Peay has been named one of the 15 semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Herman Trophy. The award is considered the Heisman of college soccer, given to the nation’s top player.

Peay is one of two co-captains who led the Huskies to a Pac-12 title and No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Washington is currently one of eight teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament and will host New Mexico on Saturday for a spot in the Final Four.

The native of Salt Lake City, has six goals on the season, starting all 21 games in central defense. He has been a key member of the defense that has allowed just 16 goals all season.

Peay was named First Team All-Pac-12 and was twice the conference Player of the Week during the regular season. Peay earned NSCAA National Player of the Week after scoring four goals in a week, including a hat trick against Santa Clara.

The Huskies have had a record-breaking season, beginning the year on a 15-game unbeaten streak and advancing to the first Elite 8 in school history. At 16-1-4, Washington has its most wins since 1998.

Among the 15 semifinalists were three players from the Pac-12. Joining Peay on the list from the conference were Leo Stolz of UCLA and Steve Birnbaum of California.

The three finalist for the MAC Herman Trophy will be announced later this month.
