SEATTLE - Three Huskies were honored as All-West Region runners Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the weekend’s NCAA regional championships meets. A total of 450 student-athletes earned the distinction by finishing among the top 25 individual finishers at one of the nine regional sites across the country.
In Sacramento last Friday, the Husky women's team took fifth, led by a fourth-place finish from senior Katie Flood and a 23rd-place finish from senior Liberty Miller, both career-bests. Flood earns All-West Region honors for the fourth-straight year, while Miller picks up her second straight.
The men's team finished ninth but Nelson was excellent once again, placing eighth to earn his way to nationals as an individual and earn his first All-West Region honor. The junior from Walla Walla's previous best Regional finish was 49th. Nelson has placed in the top-10 of every race he's run this season.
The 20th-ranked women's team and Nelson will leave Wednesday for Terre Haute, Indiana, site of this year's NCAA Championships on this coming Saturday, Nov. 23.
