Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. – University of Washington double’s pai Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke claimed a spot in the finals of the Jack Kramer Collegiate Club Invitational, as they defeated top seeded Tony Lupieri and Vincent Schneider of Baylor, 8-4, on Saturday.
The duo advanced out of the quarterfinals after a closely-fought match with UC-Irvine’s Tyler Pham and Shuhei Sibahara with the Huskies coming out on top, 8-7. They’ll now face SMU’s Nate Lammons and Alex Sanders in the doubles final at the inaugural tournament.
In singles action, three Huskies were alive in the quarterfinals led by senior Max Manthou defeating sixth-seeded Cristobal Rivera (Loyola-Marymount) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Manthou then went on to face top-seeded Lupieri (Baylor) in the semifinals, falling 6-0, 6-0. Jeff Hawke, also competed against Lupieri, but was defeated 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
The doubles final will take place on Sunday. Up next for the Huskies will be the Nordstrom Open, Nov. 15-18 at the Nordstrom Tennis Facility on the UW campus.
