Three Advance to Quarterfinals at Kramer Invite

After the first day of the inaugural Jack Kramer Collegiate Club Invitational, three Huskies advanced to the singles quarterfinals while two doubles pairs advanced out of the round of 16. The event, being held at the home club of Jeff Hawke, is in its first year.

Hawke was one of three Huskies to make it to the singles quarterfinals as he outlasted Miami’s Gabriel Flores in a tightly-contested match in the first round, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. He followed up that match with a 6-0; 6-1 victory over SMU’s Tony Russell.

Joining Hawke in the quarterfinals was Max Manthou and Emmett Egger. Manthou easily defeated his first two opponents, winning in straight sets over Tyler Pham (UC-Irvine), 6-3, 6-2, and Teague Hamilton, 6-1, 6-0. Egger also cruised through his first round beating third-seeded Alex Sanders of SMU, 6-3, 6-1 before outlasting Vincent Schneider (Baylor) 6-3, 0-6, 6-2.

All three also advanced in doubles action with Egger and Hawke defeating Loyola Marymount’s Felix Van Kann and David Doehring, 8-4 while Viktor Farkas and Max Manthou teamed up for an 8-4 win over UC Santa Barbara’s Jake Johnson and Luke Steeb.

Action continues on Saturday for the Huskies starting at 9 a.m.
