STANFORD, Calif. – Washington women’s golf finished off an outstanding weekend, finishing third at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice. The Dawgs shot a round of 1-over to finish the weekend at 1-under 851. The Dawgs trailed only USC and UCLA who both came into the weekend undefeated, but outdistanced the rest of the field, including host Stanford who was fourth.

“Those top two teams are really good,” said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “I think the main difference is they each had a round where they went low and we did not do that. We played really well overall, just a solid effort from our team.”

The Huskies were led by Charlotte Thomas who finished a brilliant weekend with a round of 1-under 70. Thomas finished tied for fifth at 4-under for the weekend. Alison Lee of UCLA won the tournament at 7-under, just four strokes ahead of Thomas.

“I am happy overall,” said Thomas. “This was a pretty solid week for me. We played against some of the best teams and player in college golf so I am happy with the performance.”

Washington’s other top-10 performances came from Jennifer Yang and Kelli Bowers. Yang finished up a great weekend with a round of 2-under 69 after making four birdies on Sunday. She finished in a tie for seventh at 3-under 210.

Bowers, who was playing as an individual placed ninth at 2-under for the tournament. Bowers had one of the top rounds of the day, firing a 2-under 69. She made five birdies on Sunday and at one point had the round at 4-under, before bogeying two of the final three holes.

Also playing well for the Huskies was  SooBin Kim who placed tied for 11th at 1-under. Kim finished the weekend with a round of even-par 71 on Sunday.

The Dawgs final scoring golfer on Sunday was Ying Luo at 4-over 75. She finished the weekend tied for 39th at 7-over 220.

Cyd Okino rounded out the squad in a tie for 54th at 12-over for the weekend. Okino shot a round of 5-over 76 on Sunday.

The Dawgs will return to action next weekend for the Pac-12 Preview in Hawai’i on November 4-5. It will be the final fall tournament of the season and a chance for Washington to test themselves against likely the top conference in college golf.
