College Soccer News Release
SEATTLE -- Husky freshman midfielder Cristian Roldan was honored on Monday, being named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Roldan had a huge week, scoring three goals and assisting on two others as the Dawgs defeated Oregon State and San Diego State to stay unbeaten.
Roldan began the week on Friday, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Oregon State. The freshman took a long Michael Harris flip throw and timed his leap perfectly to nod home the game’s only goal for what would prove to be the game winner.
Friday, Roldan had a huge game, scoring twice and assisting on two others as the Dawgs defeated San Diego State, 5-3. To begin the game, the freshman took a James Moberg free kick and buried a header from the corner of the six-yard box. Later, he sent a perfect through ball to Darwin Jones for a breakaway goal. Roldan scored his second goal on a blast from 18 yards to give UW a 4-2 lead and then capped the afternoon assisting on a Josh Heard goal.
Roldan was seeing his first action of the season at attacking center midfield after playing left midfield to begin the season. Last season’s National Gatorade High School Player of the Year is up to four goals and four assists for the season.
The 10-0-3 Huskies continue Pac-12 play tonight when they face two-time defending conference champion UCLA at the Husky Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. for a game broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.
