The pair advanced through the round of 32 in singles play while Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke moved on in doubles action.
MOREGA, Calif. – Senior Max Manthou and freshman Gal Hakak stayed undefeated in the single’s main draw at the ITA Northwest Regionals on Saturday as they both advanced to the round of 16. Day two action of the event hosted by St. Mary’s also saw the doubles pair of junior Emmett Egger and sophomore Jeff Hawke easily move on to the next round.
Manthou played a tough battle with San Francisco’s Nils Skajaa and lost the first set 6-7 (2) before bouncing back for a 7-6 (3) victory in the second and a 6-3 effort in the third for the win. Hakak, playing in his first tournament for the Huskies, continued to impress, handing San Francisco’s Yezan Dayah a 6-1, 6-2 defeat to advance. The freshman also took part in doubles play, teaming up with Wendell Watanabe to post an 8-4 victory over San Francisco in the first round before falling to St. Mary’s (Joakim Norstrom/Tuomas Manner) 8-4 in the round of 32.
After receiving a bye in the first round of doubles, Egger and Hawke pulled out an 8-4 win against Portland’s Justin Guay and Kent Andreason. They move on to face Fresno State’s John Darmstaedter and Sam MacNeil at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Sunday’s single’s action features Hakak vs. Stanford’s Anthony Tsodikov while Manthou faces Nolan Paige (Stanford) with both Huskies competing for a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
