SEATTLE – The University of Washington department of athletics launched a redesigned GoHuskies.com Monday, showcasing an innovative design focused on celebrating the brand of Husky athletics.
“We wanted GoHuskies to reflect the strength and power of the Husky athletics brand, and the fans, coaches and student-athletes who comprise that brand," Carter Henderson, Assistant Athletic Director for Public Relations, said. "The University of Washington is such a special place to so many people, and our hope was that this site can communicate some of the many things that make it so unique."
Some new site features include:
• Brand-First Philosophy
The new GoHuskies aims to showcase the Washington athletics brand, while making news and information readily available. The homepage will serve as a brand reflection of our department, with each sport page working to communicate the unique qualities, philosophies and personalities of our individual sport programs. A few new features include updated rotating "manifesto slides" containing student-athlete testimonials, program mantra graphics, and head coach philosophy statements.
• Design Simplicity
Building on momentum established from the 2011 GoHuskies redesign, designers aimed to further eliminate clutter and redundancy from the site and form a clean and simple aesthetic which allows users to navigate and digest the site easily.
• Responsive Design
Along with seven other Pac-12 schools also launching redesigns today, the new GoHuskies uses entirely responsive design, meaning that the site automatically detects a user’s screen size and adjusts site content and graphics to fit the user’s device most efficiently.
• Pac-12 and NeuLion Partnerships
Another new element of this redesign was the switch of host providers. The new GoHuskies launches in partnership with the Pac-12’s new unified digital network, and is powered by the NeuLion College Platform. By summer of 2014, NeuLion will serve as web host to the official athletic sites of all Pac-12 institutions.
