SEATTLE -- Washington improved to 13-9 and 4-6 in the Pac-12 with a convincing 5-2 win over Washington State. The Dawgs dominated play, winning the doubles point and then four of six singles matches.
The Dawgs cruised to the doubles point with Julija Lukac and Andjela Nemcevic starting things off with an 8-1 win on court three. Moments later, Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu continued their strong doubles play, winning on court one, 8-1.
After Washington had clinched doubles, Natali Coronel and Grace Ysidora played a tiebreak in their match with the score tied, 5-5. The Husky duo won the tiebreak, 7-4, making it a clean Husky sweep.
Lukac started the Dawgs off in singles, making quick work of Andjela Kankaras, 6-1, 6-1. She was followed by Nemcevic who defeated Ksenia Googe, 6-3, 6-2. Nemcevic moved down to No. 2 singles and picked up her first win in a few weeks after playing No. 1 through most of the rugged Pac-12 schedule.
Earning the clinching point was Coronel, who also won in straight sets. The sophomore defeated Olga Musilovich, 6-1, 7-5, to clinch the victory for the Dawgs.
Shimizu was the final straight-set winner for Washington, making it 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Charlotte Koning at No. 6.
Deep into the final two matches, the rain began at the Bill Quillian Tennis Stadium, forcing play inside. The Cougars earned their first point when Elizaveta Luzina defeated Douglas-Miron, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Finally, Ysidora and Liudmila Vasilieva engaged in an epic match at No. 1. The duo moved inside in a second-set tiebreak, which Ysidora battled back to win, 13-11. Playing a 10-point pro-set to decide the match, the players went back and forth before the Cougar senior finally prevailed, 10-5.
Up next for Washington is the Pac-12 Championships beginning April 24.
