GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The top ranked Huskies picked up right where they left off all season long, leaving no doubt who the team to beat is at this year’s running of the IRA National Championship Regatta at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

The Huskies swept their five respective heats on the first day of the IRA Regatta, winning each race by two seconds or more. The story played out roughly the same for each race, with the Huskies flying out to a fast start and slowly building their lead as the moved along the 2,000 meter course.

The closest finish was in the varsity eight race. Yale made a push at the end to close the gap, but the Huskies number one boat never lost control. The varsity eight, second varsity eight, and freshmen eight shells all remain undefeated on the year heading into Saturday’s semifinals.

The top two teams from each heat for the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and freshmen eight all reached tomorrow’s semifinals, and the top three from the varsity four and the open four reached as well.

Saturday’s semifinal schedule and boatings will be posted shortly.
